Apple announced today the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus devices at a special media event near its “spaceship” headquarters in California.
The phones look similar to existing iPhone 7 models, but pack in a bunch of new hardware to give them a nice boost in processing power and general usability.
One of the most noticeable upgrades will be the upgraded performance enabled by the the brand new A11 bionic chip. The new processor has a six-core CPU that includes two performance cores four high-efficiency cores. Apple claims the performance cores operate about 25 percent faster than the previous iteration and the high-efficiency cores operate at about 70 percent faster than the previous generation. In short: the phone is super fast.
The new phones also come with a GPU that is 30 percent faster than the previous processor. Apple says the new GPU is designed for better performance with 3D apps and games. This will likely come in handy with the new Apple ARKit that enabled augmented reality apps.
